The Single Blues Anemones are my Favorite, Mr. Fokker

by | Mar 13, 2012 | Other Bulbs for Warm Climates | 2 comments

Mr. Fokker Single Blue Anemones are shown here as they begin to open. This stage is perfect for cutting them to bring indoors. When you place them in vases, ensure they have plenty of water to keep them fresh.

The vibrant blue blooms of the Mr. Fokker anemone are just beginning to appear. This variety makes an excellent cutting flower and has long been a favorite of mine. It grows from a corm, which should be planted with the bristly side facing up. If it’s difficult to tell which side is up, planting the corm on its side works just as well.

You can see from the planting guide that these corms should be planted only about 1 inch beneath the surface of the soil. It’s essential to water them well at planting time, especially if you’re planting before the rains begin. In warmer, drier climates, soaking the corms for a few hours before planting can help them establish better. After planting, make sure to water thoroughly, but avoid overwatering, as this can cause the corms to rot.

Mr. Fokker anemones are fantastic for cutting, and the more you pick the flowers, the longer they will bloom. If you continue to harvest the blooms regularly, the plants will keep producing flowers for weeks. These beautiful, long-lasting anemones brighten up any room and are perfect for adding a splash of color to your garden and your home.

In addition, Mr. Fokker anemones thrive in well-drained soil and can handle partial shade or full sun. Whether in garden beds or pots, they are relatively low-maintenance and easy to grow. Their stunning blue flowers add a unique, elegant touch to any garden, making them a must-have for both novice and experienced gardeners alike.
